Description
THE SEEDS "FUTURE" One of L.A.s top Garage Rock groups goes Psychedelic on their 3rd album, released in 1967 (GNP Crescendo) GNP-2038 M-/M. Featuring "A Thousand Shadows", "Flower Lady & Her Assistant" & "Out Of The Question".
Lead vocalist, bassist & songwriter Sky Saxon (born Richard Marsh) was definitely the driving force behind this powerful L.A. Garage Rock band of the 60s. He was ably assisted by Daryl Hooper on organ &electric piano, Jan Savage on lead guitar & Rick Aldridge on drums. They had hit previously with "Pushin' Too Hard" & "Can't Seem To Make You Mine" from their debut album & "Mr. Farmer" from their sophomore "Web Of Sound" LP but decided to expand their music to a more Psychedelic sound on "Future". That doesn't mean that Sky's Jagger-esque snarl had disappeared- one listen to the single "A Thousand Shadows" will attest to that. Another strong track is "Flower Lady & Her Assistant" with the electric piano sounding similar to "Mr. Farmer". Once again produced by Marcus Tybalt- yet another pseudonym for Sky Saxon. GNP Crescendo was a small L.A. independent jazz label just beginning to branch out into Rock (their first signing was surf group, The Challengers). Nevertheless, they did right by the Seeds- recording 5 albums during their tenure. Who knows what would have happened if they had been on a major label like their contemporaries the Electric Prunes (Reprise), Love (Elektra) or the Byrds (Columbia).
