Description
Serpent Power was the brain-child of beat poet/singer David Meltzer along with wife Tina.
The young Meltzer entered the beat circle in company with the likes of Ginsberg and Kerouac in the late fifties.
In ’66 he formed Serpent Power along with Tina, guitarist Denny Ellis and bassist David Stenson.
They started with a definite “grass roots” style, and were soon taken under the wing of Ed Denton (Country Joe),who introduced them to Vanguard. This is one and only album recorded by the group, which was released in 1967.
The musical styles range from psychedelic to folk, with added influences from Asia.
