THE SHEIKS - Eternal Love b/w Centennial Swing 45
Here's an unbelievable find. Released on Toronto's Raymond Records in 1967, this was the only single by the seminal Jamaican-Canadian R&B act. Although the sublime topside was comped on Light In The Attic's 2006 'Jamaica To Toronto' LP, the 45 itself appeared undocumented online (although I have now added this copy to the main online resource). As if that wasn't enough, this appears to be a promotional release for Canada's 1967 Centennial celebrations, in a diecut, textured colour sleeve with band bio on back. The label folded soon after the record's release, although both vocalist Earle 'Mighty Pope' Heedram and guitarist Rupert Valentine Bent went on to fruitful careers. Label is signed by Heedram.
