Description
Prestige LP 7099 recording of The Story of Moondog, released in 1957. Original deep groove deep groove label RVG in dead wax. original inner liner.
Moondog haunted the streets around 6th Avenue and 54th Street in Manhattan, playing music and reciting poetry. He was inevitably dressed in a Scandinavian inspired costume and became known as the Viking of 6th Avenue. Album cover text is by Andy Warhol's mother, Julia, who was the Pop artist's first assistant. According to Andy Warhol Record Covers, 1949-1987, Catalogue Raisonne, the "obvious unevenness of the lines lends an unstudied charm that in fact reflects the meticulous care taken with each element." Only about 5000 copies of this recording were issued.
