Would you believe a one-of-a-kind album from Motown? It's from 1966-'67 no collector has ever claimed to have had this – it's not on any discography, and it's not mentioned in a book or website. So it's a singular prize for your Motown collection.

This album is a one-of-a-kind ACETATE that was custom cut by Associated Recording Studios, which was at 723 Seventh Ave. down in the music district of New York City near the famous Brill Building. This was a big studio that was used by major labels, indies, and individuals too. They did it all.

The majority of their business was making up demos for singers, bands and music publishers. Take them a song, and they could record it, or at least turn it into a record. Associated was never involved in mass production of records or tapes. In most cases the end product of a recording session was a session tape and a record made using a lathe to cut a groove on a lacquer-covered aluminum disk. That's what this is – it is NOT a pressed vinyl record.

The latest thing here was recorded on September 21, 1966, so this album is likely from right around that time. Most, but NOT ALL, of the songs would eventually turn up on the September 1967 release 'Greatest Hits' (#663) But the song "(You're Gone But) Always In My Heart" was part of the 'Supremes Sing Holland-Dozier-Holland' Lp.

Consider that in the Spring of 1967, there was an Lp scheduled by Motown called "THE SUPREMES AND THE MOTOWN SOUND" ( # 656) but it was cancelled and never released. No track listing seems to exist for this cancelled album. Could this acetate be the lost album?

One remarkable part of his album is that EACH AND EVERY SONG HERE is by Brian Holland - Lamont Dozier - Edward Holland Jr. There are few Supremes albums that boast this trait, only the 1967 album "Supremes sing Holland-Dozier-Holland" Lp and the 1965 "More Hits By The Supremes" are like that. Perhaps this is an acetate prepared for H-D-H and their own purposes.

What is this ? That seems to be lost data – and it might take somebody asking the right person inside of Motown to sort it out. This acetate came from the estate of a man who worked at Allied and they had no info on how it came to pass. Just one of those odd records he came home with years ago.
