1977 Free Reed Records release #FRRD 021/022
UK issue ORIGINAL 12" vinyl double LP
Peter Bellamy wrote this ballad-opera: The Transports in 1973 and it took him 4 years to find a company willing to produce it in 1977. Many prominent names in the folk scene collaborated on the project Dolly Collins (a composer, the sister of Shirley Collins), Martin Carthy, Mike Waterson, Norma Waterson, June Tabor, Nic Jones, A.L. Lloyd, Cyril Tawney and Dave Swarbrick. It told the true story of the first transport ship to land in Australia and the first couple to marry on Australian soil. Based on a story Peter found in the local newspaper in Norfolk and followed by his research into the details at the city museum and library. Descendants of the Kabel family still live in Sydney and became friends of Peter.

CONDITION:
Cover - Beautiful gatefold cover contains attached inner booklet with lovely
artwork & lyrics - minimal wear - EX condition
Records - have a few surface marks - there are pops on 1st song, Side 4 - VG+ condition (because of the pops.)
OTHER INFO:
Records are in plain white paper inner sleeves.
LOTS OF OTHER COOL STUFF INCLUDED: Playbook from the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London (has some numbers written & circles drawn in pencil), booklets advertising The Transports (along with other folk acts at South Bank 1983), a copy of a Melody Maker interview with Peter Bellamy concerning The Transports from June 14, 1975.
We attempt to grade our vinyl according to Record Collector Magazine guidelines:
MINT
The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT
The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD
The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD
The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR
The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR
The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD
The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
