While the group recorded from 1953 to 1963, the bulk of their output, mainly on M-G-M's Cub subsidiary, from 1958 to 1962, consisted of so-called "standards," often harking back to the 1930s. In his book "BURT BACHARACH: SONG BY SONG" Serene Dominic says, "The Wanderers' ability to play it comical like the Coasters and elegant like the Platters was a trait that went under appreciated by all but the most rabid doo-wop aficionados. "Someone Else's Sweetheart" neatly showcases both qualities in high style. Ray Pollard's impassioned vocals over a track containing a head-pounding baion beat and chain-rattling tambourines. Once again Pollard is grappling with guilt over falling in love with another man's girl, causing him to leap from baritone lows to full-throated highs with a single bound like Buck Ram or Jackie Wilson. The other Wanderers do their bit by oohing and thing majestically whenever they're not required to dooby-dooby-doo or emulate the bong of a church bell."
