Description
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega Planar 3 turntable fitted with an Elys cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. Any significant playing defects will be detailed in the description below. I know how disappointing it is to receive a record graded as excellent, only to find that listening pleasure is spoiled by endless pops, loud clicks and intrusive background crackle. I guarantee that you will not buy such a record from me!!
The winning bidder can expect to receive a clean record, carefully packaged, with the vinyl removed from the inner and outer sleeves to prevent splits in transit.
This particular record famously has “CRACKLING NOISES O.K. DO NOT CORRECT!†printed on the Track labels. This refers to the crackling noises inherent in the recording, not pops, clicks and crackle caused by wear or dirt in the grooves (as many people would have you believe). The example offered here plays faultlessly, exactly as it left the press.
Here for auction is an exceptional example of the seminal live album by THE WHO titled “THE WHO LIVE AT LEEDSâ€. This is an ORIGINAL 1970 STEREO UK FIRST PRESSING on the TRACK RECORD LABEL, Catalogue Number 2406 001, with THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE MATRIX NUMBERS 2406001 A//1 and 2406001 B//1. This example has a BLUE STAMPED SLEEVE, and comes complete with THE FULL SET OF 11 EARLIEST STYLE INSERTS PLUS THE MARQUEE POSTER. Extremely hard to find in this STUNNING CONDITION!!!
The fragile gatefold card sleeve, printed by MacNeill Press Ltd., is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. The front and back covers are UNMARKED apart from a few light creases and some age discoloration. The staples securing the inner pouches are completely intact and free from rust. There is virtually no edge or spine wear. The corners show only light creasing. There are no rips, stickers or writing.
Overall an EXTREMELY WELL PRESERVED EXAMPLE of what is a notoriously fragile sleeve!!
The SOLIDLY PRESSED record retains its ORIGINAL LUSTRE and sits flat and true on the turntable (later pressings were pressed on much thinner vinyl). Visually in EXCELLENT+ CONDITION with just a few very light surface marks (caused by taking the record in and out of the inner sleeve) which do not affect play. The white TRACK LABELS show only a couple of very light spindle traces. There are still slivers of plastic in the spindle hole (see photo below). I am confident that the record has hardly been played!!!
A critical play-grading on my REGA turntable, showed why top copies of these STEREO FIRST PRESSINGS are so SOUGHT AFTER. The CLARITY and POWER of the AMAZING SOUNDS that emanate from these FIRST PRESSED GROOVES is VERY SPECIAL!!!
Both sides play SUPERBLY with ALL FREQUENCIES CRYSTAL CLEAR – SOUNDS SENSATIONAL!! There are NO jumps, pops or loud clicks, and a minimum of unwanted noise (never intrusive). You simply will not find a better playing copy!!!
The ELEVEN INSERTS and the MARQUEE POSTER (which only came with early pressings) are all present and in EXCELLENT UNMARKED CONDITION.
Complete with the CORRECT ORIGINAL poly-lined inner sleeve which is also in EXCELLENT CONDITION.
