Having had rather a lengthy hiatus, I'm back to sell more of my collection/ 2nd copies/ records I think might be of interest to others. In previous years I've sold very rare PROG, 60s, PUNK etc, ranging from cheap record right up to £1000 records, and have invariably got good feedback. However, having been away from selling for so long I realise I need to build up current positive feedback again, hence I'm listing many items at buy it now prices, please check out my current, and coming here at my other items! Here we have the very rare 1966 barely charting single, I can't even recall if it did chart! THE WHO'S La-La-La-Lies B/W The Good's Gone. This was the group's final single released on the Brunswick, and represents the final release of the triad of singles released by Brunswick after the band had actually left the label, and indeed this single was released on exactly the same day as their READY STEADY WHO EP, on the Reaction label in a last ditch attempt by the aggrieved label (Brunswick- Decca) to scupper their previously owned act's chances. Previously Brunswick (Decca) had successfully sued THE WHO for reusing the title "Instant Party" on the B-side of their first single for the new Reaction label. But that's another story, this was the final insult Brunswick could sling, and sadly for them it sold shockingly badly! The answer to this, in no small part must be that both the A and B side of this record were recorded the previous year, and indeed released and no doubt owned by most Who fans on their previous year's debut album My Generation. There didn't seem much point at the time a Who fan buying their last years output, that they probably already owned. However it todays market, that makes this one of the last titles most Who collections need, as so many people want it, and so few were ever in circulation, and even less today! These factors make it a toss up for me as to which is the rarest generally released 60s WHO single, this, their previous The Kids Are Alright, or their incredibly limited Track release in aid of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards' legal fees, The Last Time/ Under My Thumb (rumoured to be the rarest single on track)... All very rare, but my money would be on this one, sold less at the time, so unless for some unexplained reason more copies of this record have survived the test of time than the other two, this I think is the rarest!
There are two variants to this single, regarding the "Original recording and Licenced by Decca Records..." text located on each label at about 2 o'clock, some have that text spaced over 4 lines, and some (I believe fewer) have it spaced over 3 lines. This is one such 3-line variant. The stamper/lacquer codes are the very early 1N (6th lacquer) and 1A (9th laquer) respectively.
This is a well played copy, however, it is a very highly sought after single, and one that most Who collections are lacking, therefore I offer it up here as a fine playing (with background noise) collection filling copy!

LABELS: VG, The A-side is in quite nice shape, but for a little bit of sticker residue/graze (visible in the photos at about 8 o'clock), and a small rub next to it. The B-side is very nice, with just a couple of light rubs (spindle rubs etc.) to detract. All-in-all, very nice! Completely free of graffitti etc. And the central disc is firmly attached on all four prongs.
VINYL: VG-, Mainly surface marks, doesn't look like a lovely black mirror, but plays really strongly (Shel Talmy's mixes, indeed many Beat/Mod mixes of this period cut through beautifully over a bit of surface marks), with a bit of background noise in the quieter passages (not that there is much of that on this single!) A couple of slightly more significant marks, the most notable of these is highlighted in one of the photos, near 6 o'clock on the A-side, at the end of the track.The disc plays through great, with a few ticks here and there, good strong loud recordings, don't show these up much though.
SLEEVE:VG-/VG , I believe this is this records original sleeve, and so it is a good guage as to the single's life, general handling wear, a little wear along the top opening mouth edges and the die-cut central edges, nothing significant, a small horizontal selotape stain, visible near the centre of the top of the front (visible in photos), no wear-throughs along the edges, no graffitti,so pretty good, above average for a mod single's sleeve I'd say, but no museum piece!
