The Who – Live at Leeds – Original UK 1970 First Press
The Who – Live at Leeds
Track Records – 2406 001
Original UK pressing – 1970
Stereo
A fantastic opportunity to own an early UK copy of one of the most iconic live albums in rock history.
This is the original Track Records 2406 001 issue, with the highly sought-after early A//1 matrix confirmed on Side 1. The record features the distinctive original white Track labels with the handwritten-style blue lettering and the famous “Crackling noises O.K. Do Not Correct!” instruction.
The copy comes with the original tan/buff gatefold sleeve, original inner sleeve and a substantial collection of nine period memorabilia inserts/documents, including the particularly desirable Maximum R&B / Marquee poster.
Memorabilia included
The nine pieces shown in the photographs include:
• Original Maximum R&B / Marquee poster featuring The Who
• New Action Ltd handwritten tour/earnings document relating to Malcolm Rose
• High Numbers earnings/payment document
• Typed “My Generation” lyrics with handwritten annotations
• Delivery Note relating to Brockes Gas / Freightworks
• County Court Notice
• EMI Records correspondence
• Premier Talent Associates document
• Kings Agency cancellation/correspondence
These documents reproduce the extraordinary collection of contemporary music-business paperwork that made the original Live at Leeds package so famous among collectors. Known original-issue examples contain memorabilia relating to The Who’s bookings, finances, agencies, EMI correspondence, Woodstock and the Marquee.
Condition
Overall: Fair / Good vintage condition.
The sleeve shows age-related wear, marks, creasing and general storage wear consistent with a 1970 original. The paper memorabilia also shows signs of age and handling.
The vinyl has visible surface marks/scratches and is not being described as mint or near mint. I have not made a claim regarding audio playback, so prospective buyers should assess the photographs carefully.
Please study all photographs as they form an important part of the description.
Why this copy is interesting
The 2406001 A//1 matrix visible in the run-out is an important feature of the earliest UK pressings. Comparable early copies with A//1/B//1 matrices and the original memorabilia package are highly sought-after by Who and vinyl collectors.
This is therefore much more than simply an old copy of Live at Leeds — it is an early UK Track pressing accompanied by a substantial collection of the original-style contemporary memorabilia that made this release so distinctive.
