THE WHO "MY GENERATION"
BRUNSWICK RECORDS Cat# LAT
1965 Original FIRST Issue LP
**********************************************************
This is the FIRST album recording from the premier Mod band, that saw release in The UK on BRUNSWICK Records (in the US on Decca)
After a brief name change to The High Numbers for one 45, they had a boost in the management of Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp, and put out their tough debut single "Can't Explain", to good chart and sales success. Indeed
The WHO maintained a charting single presence right throughout the 1960s, and had peers in The Kinks, Move, Small Faces and Traffic
They created something that transcended mere pop - something sophisticated, provocative and rebellious.
The singles came from this album thick and fast - and some were bitter retributions from the producer Shel Talmy after they rejected his 'svengali guidance'. Indeed they even competed against the lable by issuing a slightly different version of Instant Party on another record lable.... and that instigated a Legal Matter and Talmy accused them of La La La Lies!!
Pete Townshend was a true pioneer, and the band famously stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park with 'Substitute', and moved on with the help of new record lables Reaction and Track.
NOW - HERE'S A SPECIAL PIECE OF WHO HISTORY:
This is a BEAUTIFUL COPY of an already revered debut album that's ALMOST NEVER FOUND in redeemable shape - it was normally a Mod lp that got shared, loaned, played at parties, thrown across the carpet to that record changer, sat or leaned on and generally abused.
THIS copy was handled with care though, happily.
It's in almost impossibly great condition - and is now an 'archive copy', museum quality. No upgrade needed!!
Condition;
The VINYL is EXCELLENT+
FULL SHINE - the best copy I have ever had, It is really a 'Deep Groove' pressing here.
The LABLES are EXCELLENT, some signs of play with spindle lines. No pen or stickers.
The FRONT LAMINATED light card COVER is VG++.
Faint pen on the rear, bright & flat, and nicely preserved.
See photos.
