THE WHO - TOMMY. DECCA PROMO BOX SET 1969.
USA RADIO STATION PROGRAMMING.
DECCA 734610 - 13.
This extremely hard to find box set was released in 1969, and intended for use as a promotion only, given to American Radio Stations to be played with the intention of boosting the Albums sale's. (Looking back, I dont think they had any worries there.) It's a well presented box set containing four 7" singles and a fold out booklet that gives some background to the songs. The tracks are as follows, and the sides numbered as I have listed them.
1 AMAZING JOURNEY / 2 THE ACID QUEEN
3 GO TO THE MIRROR BOY / 4 TOMMY CAN YOU HEAR ME
5 SMASH THE MIRROR / 6 SENSATION
7 SALLY SIMPSON / 8 IM FREE.
You can clearly see the "Not for sale" stamps on the labels. The records came without the centre inserts, and inside a sturdy box that is hinged on the left hand side. The booklet cover is the same as the cover on the front of the box. The four discs are housed in their original inners, and sit snugly inside the box. The records are still clean, flat and shiny, with just a couple of light marks on some of the sides. The booklet is fully intact, no tears and only a few light ripples. The box is solid, no corner dings, a faint split on the finger groove where you open it. Hinge is solid, no damage whatsoever. Excellent.
It's a tidy little set, and I'm sure those of you looking at this listing know just how rare this is. So, in a nutshell, it's a 42 year old hard to find promo in lovely condition.
