THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS -- ORIGINAL 1968 FOLK-PSYCH LP -- FACTORY SEALED!! RARE FIRST RECORDED WORK BY DEBORAH HARRY, LATER OF BLONDIE
Pretty unusual to come across a sealed original copy of this one, but here it is!
This album has become a sought-after rarity only because of Debbie Harry's participation. Which is a shame, because the music is just stunning. It usually gets roundly panned by Blondie fans, because it's about as far away from that band as you can get (although Debbie's voice is unmistakable here, almost a decade earlier than Blondie.) It's a positively great example of Greenwich Village psych-folk music, and if none of its members had gone onto any fame afterwards, I think it'd be a highly-revered piece of music. Funny how things are, isn't it?
This LP is part of a collection of records rescued from the basement of a small mom-and-pop music store in Bergen County, NJ. The store primarily sold pianos and organs, but also had a small record department for a while in the mid-to-late 1960s. The family who ran the store also owned the building, and still does -- and that's why, although the store closed in the early '70s, the basement was still full of old pianos, organs, and musical equipment in 2011. My dreams of an incredible treasure-trove were a bit too optimistic, unfortunately. Most of the instruments had some water damage or mold problems, and in any case all the really good stuff had been picked over years earlier. There was, however, one box of records that caught my eye. Again, most of the serious treasure had been picked over -- but here we still have quite a few very interesting '60s LP records, STILL SEALED in the original shrink-wrap, and in the same perfect condition they were in when they were brought downstairs and left there in the late '60s. There is NO water damage, NO mold, NO mildew -- and, as noted earlier, they're all still factory-sealed. (Yes, they do smell a bit basement-y. But, i repeat, NO mold or mildew!) These are NOT CUT-OUTS. They have no notches, corner-cuts, or drill-holes. They were all from original store-stock. Some nice things to be had here. Check our other listings to see the rest. (NOTE: The photo you see is a stock photo I grabbed off of the interwebs. I got tired of trying to get good photos without glare from the VERY-shiny 1960s shrink-wrap.) All of these LPs have a 2" circular green price-code sticker ON the shrink-wrap. The covers themselves are all in pristine shape -- although, as you might imagine, the shrink-wrap is a bit shopworn.
All of these LPs are GUARANTEED to be pressings from the late 1960s or earlier. They're not cleverly-disguised '80s reissues.
