THIS IS A CLASSIC MUST HAVE ALBUM, THE CONDITION OF THIS DISC IS VG TO VG+ IT HAS DEFINITELY BEEN ENJOYED AND HAS SEVERAL HAIR LINES, BUT NO DEEP FEELABLE SCRATCHES, IT PLAYS THROUGH VERY WELL DOES NOT SKIP BUT PLAYS WITH POPS AND CLICKS AND SURFACE NOISE. I HAVE PLAY GRADED THIS, TURNED IT UP LOUD AND CAN SAY THAT THIS IS STILL AN AMAZING SOUNDING RECORD! AMAZING BASS AND HIGHS AND THE VOCALS JUMP OUT. THE ALBUM WAS ENGINEERED BY GEOFF EMERICK DIRECTLY FROM THE SGT PEPPER SESSIONS.

SIDE 2 PLAYS QUIETER THAN SIDE 1, SURPRISINGLY THE FAMOUS TIME OF THE SEASON THAT ENDS THE ALBUM PLAYS ALMOST PERFECTLY! SO, IF YOU WANT AN ORIGINAL CLASSIC AND REALISE THAT IT HAS DEFINITELY BEEN PLAYED A LOT, THIS IS THE ONE TO GO FOR. REALISE, AN EXCELLENT TO MINT UK COPY GOES FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS, SO THIS IS A GOOD OPTION.

NOTE: I HAVE NOT ATTEMPTED TO CLEAN THE RECORD APART FROM A WIPE, AND WILL DEFINITELY IMPROVE WITH A GOOD CLEANING.

THE COVER IS A VG+, NO SPLITS, NO STICKERS, A NAME WRITTEN ON BACK COVER AND GENERAL WEAR. THE SPINE SHOWS WEAR BUT STILL READABLE. LABELS ARE IN EXCELLENT SHAPE

Terms like “classic” and “amazing” get tossed around an awful lot when talking about albums. Those words have been used and abused over time to the point where they are almost meaningless. Here to reclaim the significance of those terms is an album that truly is amazing and a drop-dead classic, the Zombies’ ‘Odessey and Oracle’ — which was released 45 years ago.

Recorded during the second half of 1967, ‘Odessey and Oracle’ was only the Zombies’ second album, as the band kind of sat out the evolving-album game.

Recording began just as the Beatles wrapped up recording ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,’  and Pink Floyd were putting finishing touches on ‘Piper at the Gates of Dawn’ ‘Odessey’ (unintentionally misspelled by the cover artist on the album sleeve) kicks off with the jubilant and joyful sounds of ‘Care of Cell 44, the vocal harmonies are on par with the Beach Boys. The mood created is, not in an overblown psychedelic sense — it’s a purer dream with dynamic interplay between the guitars and keyboards. The album ends on what has become the Zombies signature song, ‘Time of the Season,’ which remains one of the era’s most cherished artifacts. By the time the album was released, the band had disbanded.

Famed musician and now A&R man with Columbia Records Al Kooper brought the LP back with him from a trip to England in 1968. After learning that the label was going to pass on the album, Kooper intervened and the album was finally released in the US in late 1968, on subsidiary DATE Records and did nothing — that is, until the single of ‘Time of the Season’ was issued in early 1969, at which point the song exploded. By April of ’69, the song was nestled in at No. 3 in the US charts, a full year after its UK release and close to two years after recording began. To capitalize on this, Columbia added a new label to the unsold pressed stock with Time of the Season printed above the album title.

Albums this good really are quite scarce, and if you have never heard this masterpiece, here is a chance to own an original 1st pressing.

How I Grade Condition Of Discs

Mint

This means I have owned it from new or purchased from a distributors warehouse, basically it means absolutely new shape, never been played or out of its dust cover. In the case of LP's, a North American album will have to be factory sealed (anyone can reseal an album!) Take Note: European and Japaneses albums were never shrink wrapped!

Note: Being mint does not guarantee it's free of pops and clicks, many pressings especially from the US were made with very poor vinyl and in a hurry which means often there are imperfections in the pressing. As a former importer, we were often given back brand new albums due to clicks heard in the playback.

Mint Minus - No such thing, it's either mint or not.

Excellent - A disc is super clean, with no visible marks

 Excellent Plus, means it's probably mint but can't be proven by me.

Excellent minus, is a disc that is excellent except it may have some markings that do not show up in the playing

VG - A disc that is STILL in good shape, WILL have some scuffs or scratches, not in excellent shape but well worth owning. VG + and ++,a disc that is that much better than VG.

VG minus, just a smidgen below VG

Good - A disc that can be played, has obvious ware but is worth owning, a DJ copy of a rare early Motown for instance or a rare Doo-Wop or Northern Soul which could still be worth a fortune, Good Minus & Good Plus is a step above or below Good. In most cases I will not offer a disc in this condition unless it's rare and hard to find.

LABELS

Labels do not alter the grading of vinyl, many records are Excelent, looked after by the previous owner but still has their initials or markings on the label. A DJ copy will often have markings to show which side to be plugged, or the length of the intro. Many labels and covers in the US have been punched, that was done by the record company to show the disc was deleted and shipped out to mass retailers to sell cheap and could not be returned for a credit, this does not impeed the value, many records eg Swan and VJ Beatles were done like that
