THE ZOMBIES Odessey and oracle - original UK rare 1st pressing mono CBS 1968 LP
CBS 63280, 1968 UK issue, mono, matrix number endings A1, B1.
Classic Zombies album, released after they had broken up and receiving critical acclaim years later.
Line-up: Rod Argent, Colin ‘Neil MacArthur’ Blunstone, Hugh Grundy, Chris White, Paul Atkinson.
Track listing:
Side 1. Care of Cell 44 – A rose for Emily – Maybe after he’s gone – Beechwood Park – Brief candles – Hung up on a dream.
Side 2. Changes – I want her she wants me – This will be our year – Butcher’s tale (Western Front 1914) – Friends of mine – Time of the season.
Cover EX A lovely copy of this striking cover, the psychedelic illustration being slightly at odds with the music. A tiny amount of wear to the open edges and their corners, top and bottom edges and spine near perfect. A few light creases on the front panel, a small smudge and a light foxing mark on the rear.
Original CBS printed paper inner sleeve in sound condition: a scuff on the front bottom right corner.
Vinyl: appearance VG, sound side 1 EX-/VG+, sound side 2 EX.
The vinyl gives a good first impression but both sides have some smears and surfaces marks, including a long line passing from the run-in across to the run-out, which have little or no effect on the play or sound.
Side 1 has two clicks near the beginning of track 5, for the rest there is some faint background crackle, most noticeable at the end of tracks across into the intro of the next, but can also be detected in other places.
Side 2 has no real noteworthy detractions bar one pop near the end of track 5.
