Artist: THELONIOUS MONK
Title: “Brilliant Corners”
Label: RIVERSIDE. Monaural pressing on medium weight vinyl. Label is (small) blue with silver text, does not have deep groove. Catalog number is RLP 12-226.
Session date: December 1956.
Personnel:
Thelonious Monk – piano
Ernie Henry – alto sax
Sonny Rollins – tenor sax
Oscar Pettiford – bass
Max Roach – drums.
On 2-3 Clark Terry – trumpet, replaces Henry; and Paul Chambers replaces Pettiford on bass. Also, 2-2 is an unaccompanied piano solo.
Condition:
DISC: Vinyl retains 100% of original gloss, has been played a small number of times and handled with care. Grades nice VG++ with a couple very slight hairline scuffs on each side that do not affect the listening experience other than to produce an occasional very soft tick. No serious marks or issues. Fidelity is superb. Labels are clean. A very fine playing copy.
JACKET: EXCELLENT. Front artwork is clean and bright, with a few slight traces of ring wear just beginning to appear. Nice seams and spine, except top seam has some areas that have darkened. Trace of wear at corner tips. Reverse is clean with no writing or stickers, but has some ring wear. Overall a very nice jacket to accompany the beautiful disc.
