Description

THEM  featuring Van Morrison
THE "ANGRY" YOUNG THEM

Second Mono issue (late '60's) on British Decca ~ LK 4700

Front cover is laminated with "Clarifoil" ~ Made in England ~ Glorious Mono sound

14 incredible songs ~ First issued in the U.K. in 1965 on Decca's "ffrr" label.

Note : This LP was originally recorded in Mono & does not exist in true Stereo.

Intact front cover lamination wraps around spine onto edge of back cover.

VINYL: Near Mint (NM): Very little sign of play... Pressed deep on very black & very shiny inflexible vinyl... Factory-stamped Matrix numbers in the dead wax end in "3A".

COVER: Near Mint Minus (NM-): Almost like-new... There is one minor crease near the front/right bottom (hard to see in the scan)... Slight ring wear (but not much)... Both seams are intact & sharp... Opening edge is sharp... Very little corner wear... Spine is intact, sharp & very legible. The intact lamination wraps neatly around spine onto the back. There are faint remnants of a stamp on back cover/ near bottom right.

INNER SLEEVE: Near Mint original red & cream polylined "Mono" sleeve with lots of info about Mono and Stereo LPs (see scan.) Sleeve says : "Made in England".

LABELS : Deep red Decca labels w/ silver logo (boxed) at top (see scan.)
Both labels are very sharp with no marks. Near perfect.

BEAR SAYS: A youthful Van Morrison flat tears it up on this fantastic 1965 LP, the actual debut effort by the legendary Irish quintet called THEM. The LP appears to be self-titled (according to the spine & the labels) but it is generally known as "The Angry Young Them". This solid LP gives the first Stones album a run for the money... Here is British Blues & Soul at it's best, from the slammin' opener "Mystic Eyes" all the way to "Route 66"... the late Pete Bardens (of Camel fame) gets special recognition for his great organ work.... and can you believe the color photo of Mr. Morrison on the front cover ?? Incredible !! Finally, Mono is definitely the way to go on this gem~ the mushy re-channeled Stereo mix (found on re-issued CDs) really doesn't cut it. For full effect one must hear these tunes on the Mono vinyl !! So don't snooze Van fans... get Angry !!

Please email the Bear for complete song list or check AMG for a glowing review.

A SIMPLE VINYL GRADING SYSTEM :

Mint: Still Sealed/Unplayed/Unopened
Mint minus (M-): New and Possibly Unplayed ; a rarely used grade.
Near Mint (NM): Like-new, with little or no visible wear; very collectible.
Near Mint minus (NM-): almost like-new, perhaps very slight signs of age, play or wear that are strictly cosmetic.
Excellent (EX) Very Good double-plus (VG++): Way above average, very nice, no serious flaws; played, not abused.
Very Good plus (VG+): An above average used LP; a few visible surface marks or paper scuffs; slight surface noise.
Very Good (VG) : An average used LP, far from perfect; a few light scratches. Some noise; plays through, no skips.
Very Good minus (VG-) : Reveals lots of wear when viewed or spun but is not actually defective or warped.

LP Cover grading is a much less exact, more subjective science. Generally, the truly collectible grades range from Mint to Excellent (VG++) depending on general wear. Main cover flaws such as split seams or spine splits, ring wear, cut or bent corners, hole punches, writing, water damage etc. should always be mentioned in a proper auction listing. These factors (or lack thereof) will combine to determine the grade. Please email if you desire more details about any LP cover/record/insert or poster listed by Bearswax 2.
