London will always be London - one of the most musically influential cities on the planet. Right now, though, despite the capital continuing to push sonic culture forward and into fresh directions, it's the UK's regional hubs that are arguably producing the most pleasing and accomplished sounds. And within that list, Manchester has returned to the very top of the table. In 2026, the North of England metropolis is home to an endless list of amazing talent working in broad spectrums of sound. But what's just as important is the determination to do things and a not-so-quiet confidence which has slowly been returning for decades, but now seems to have exploded in an orgy of creativity. Chris Massey, a leading figure in the city's electronic scene and the man behind both Sprechen and The Thief of Time, is a case in point: multiple monikers and projects, all expertly polished and coherent enough to have built a genuine cosmic-chug-Ital-ish universe for themselves in a way that is only possible with genuine self belief.
