Description
This is a fine copy on of a 1993 comp of singles tracks and previously unissued or rare material by Long Beach, CA, group the Things to Come. The group's fortunes were typical of many in their day. Though a popular local act that sported good songwriters, tight playing, and a charismatic lead singer, the original incarnation of the group managed to release only one single on a local label. Two more singles came out on Warner Bros. in 1968 after the group fired their lead singer. Then ten years later, a nine-track micro-pressing LP came and went. This Sundazed comp ignores the Warner Bros. 45s, but collects the debut single and all of the other tracks from the micro-pressing LP, and adds an additional five tracks. Highlights include "Sweetgina" (the debut 45, strongly influenced by Them), the Dylanesque "Character of Caruso," and the two extraordinary songs that close the LP, "Behold Now Behemoth" and "Darkness." With the exception of a version of "Smokestack Lightning," all songs on the LP are group compositions. The 1993 Sundazed pressing was the first, and remains the only to release all of this material together. The jacket has some creasing in one corner, and is otherwise close to pristine (EX+). The blue vinyl disc is clean with a little light dinging and scuffing on side 2, and plays with occasional light surface noise (EX+).
I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs.
