THIRD WORLD WAR 1971 PROTO-PUNK UNDERGROUND PROGRESSIVE ROCK FIRST ISSUE (A1+B1) FLY LABEL VINYL LP COMPLETE WITH LYRIC INSERT
This original, first pressing on the original Fly label is not only in great Ex++/Near Mint condition but also comes with the elusive lyric insert, also in Near Mint condition. The vinyl is in lovely, Ex++ condition and plays perfectly. This just never turns up as an original first press, particularly with the insert and it would be impossible to find another in this condition.
Though this political underground band played alongside Arthur Brown, The Pink Fairies, Egg, Roy Harper and Gnidrolog at the ‘Oz Police Ball’ obscenity trial benefit, they had a very different outlook. They were singing about the rebels, the poor and uneducated, the worling class, the unskilled labourers and yobbos. The could write sensitive melodies, but in general their music and lyrics were ugly, bruitish and short.
This, their first album has as much in common with raw punk, a decade later, as the heavy rock, progressive underground scene of the ’60’s and early 70’s. Standout tracks include M.I.5’s ALIVE, SHEPHERD’S BUSH COWBOY and PREACHING VIOLENCE.
Though they got as far as releasing a second album on the Track label, commercial success was never going to happen and this, their first and most powerful outpouring of their own brand of what has later been compared with phsycobilly, is a minor masterpiece. Extraordinary then, that later fame still escapes them.
