ABOUT THE ARTWORK: This rare circa 1983 piece of genuine/original Andie Airfix (RIP) artwork was (as marked on tracing paper cover) for ‘GAP SECOND STAGE ROUGHS - LOGO AND SHIPS ’ for the Into The Gap FLYPOSTER. (MARKED ON TOP LEFT OF CARD.) SEE ALL IMAGES
Andie's iconic and much loved artwork designs appeared throughout all the 'Into The Gap’ Thompson Twins publicity. Into The Gap the album was first released on vinyl in 1984.
Being pre-digital days, this artwork provides a fascinating glimpse/insight into the designer's unique process of design on board. Artwork for print back then, would usually arrive and be presented with a protective cover of see-through tracing paper. This item also illustrates the manner in which Andie indicates and shows by hand the early rough requirements for choices of colours, imagery and lettering styles.
ACTUAL SIZE : 550mm/55 cms x 40 cms (1' 9 x 1'4”) Ideal for to A2 size re framing.
(Comes in/with the original A2 plastic folder/case which Andie gave it to me in . The folder/case has a couple of tears on edges.(SEE SECOND IMAGE with the case behind it.)
ARTWORK CONDITION Good.
Has been kept in the original large plastic artwork folder/case for past 25 years in my collection. Fold over Tracing paper cover came with small tear as shown. SEE IMAGES
ABOUT ANDIE AIRFIX Acclaimed graphic artist Andie Airfix should be recognized as an icon for his contributions to so many cherished works. His best known creations are the covers of numerous DefLeppard LPs — 1983's Pyromania, 1987's Hysteria, 1992's Adrenalize, and numerous singles. However, this wiry British figure also made art for Metallica, New Edition, Thompson Twins, The Who, and Led Zeppelin.
