Tindersticks are certainly outliers in the era of early 90s British indie music. When everyone was going wild for ego-driven Beatles knock-offs and foppish one-hit wonders, or elsewhere reveling in washed out shoegaze reveries, Tindersticks sat somewhere in the middle, the consummate square peg dishing out strung-out country rock twang, labyrinthe narratives and dreamy production. It's at once obtuse and incredibly easy on the ears, and now you can revisit the best of the bands' work across several patches of productivity from 1992 to the present day, thanks to this authoritative four-disc box set from City Slang.
