Description
Scarce pressing from 1949 on the SMC Pro-Arte label, of Tito Rodriguez & the Mambo Devils. Mambo Styles (Strictly for Dancing),
10" 33 1/3 LP, unbreakable, Cat. S M C-504, matrix/runout etched SMC-504-1 and SMC-504-2.
I don't know if this is a first or second pressing or if it just has an alternative cover. The couple of covers seen on ebay or discogs are yellow with dark blue/black lettering. This cover is dark/brick red with black lettering except for 'SMC' and '331/3' which are in white. It has the same matrix numbers as all the others and it is before the name change. See pictures.
Cover is in VG+ condition, no splits, tears, or bends. Slight ring wear on front, some discoloration/foxing? on back. A '59' in light red pencil and a couple of check marks in light grey pencil on the back. Does not come with the original inner sleeve.
Vinyl has light pops and ticks throughout but nothing that detracts from the recording. There is a light scratch on track A4 that lasts about a minute but once again it is not overwhelming. Fidelity is pretty good for a 70 year old recording with a nice balance between vocal, brass, bass, and percussion.
