Todd Rundgren Test Pressing of "A Wizard, A True Star", mislabeled by an mastering assistant as "Tod Rundgren Test Press"
Near the start of 1973, my band was being considered by Columbia Records for a record deal, and was brought in to their studio in NY to record a demo. At the end of our session, , sitting on a stack of outboard equipment I noticed that someone had left this test pressing of Todd Rundgren's "A Wizard, a True Star" behind (although I didn't know WHAT it was at the time). I'd been a big fan of "Something/Anything," so I grabbed it, although I never got around to playing it before the album came out a few months later.
I've had it on a shelf in my studio, unplayed, for 52 years, and now that I'm relocating, I've decided to sell it along with the rest of the contents of my studio. I briefly played it for the first time since '73 last week to check out its quality, and to my ears, it sounds absolutely amazing.
The record is pristine, with no wear that I can see.
