TOM WAITS "Big Time" 1988 UK ISLAND 1st PRESS MINT w/BLACK ISLAND INNER, SUPERB LIVE LP, 1/2 PLAYS ONLY
TOM WAITS
Big Time

ORIGINAL UK ISLAND (ITW 4) FIRST PRESSING (September 1988) OF TOM WAITS' TREMENDOUS "Big Time" LP - Recorded live in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dublin, Stockholm and Berlin

THE LP IS IN BARELY PLAYED CONDITION (only one, maybe two light spindle traces on the labels) AND IT SOUNDS SENSATIONAL THROUGHOUT - VERY, VERY CLEAN PRESSING WITH FLAWLESS AUDIO REPRODUCTION - ATMOSPHERIC AND BEAUTIFULLY RECORDED (live to 24 track) THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL SEMI-GLOSSY SLEEVE AND COMES COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL ISLAND BLACK INNER SLEEVE - GREAT COPY
FIRST PRESS MATRIX: ITW 4 A-1U - 1 - 1 / ITW 4 B-1U - 1 - 1

Big Time is an 12-track live album of material drawn mostly from Tom Waits' trio of recent studio albums, Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs, and Franks Wild Years.
The performance of "Strange Weather" marks Waits' first recording of a song he and his wife, Kathleen Brennan, wrote for Marianne Faithfull.
It's challenging music, made somewhat more accessible in a live context.
Waits' performances tended to be somewhat over the top on the studio versions of these songs, but before a live audience his theatrics seem more appropriate.
Still, it takes him until "Way Down in the Hole," to bring the audience to life, and he rarely speaks, in marked contrast to the earlier live-in-the-studio album Nighthawks at the Diner

SIDE ONE: 16 Shells From A Thirty-Ought-Six / Red Shoes / Cold Cold Ground / Way Down In The Hole / Falling Down / Strange Weather
SIDE TWO: Big Black Mariah / Rain Dogs / Train Song / Telephone Call From Istanbul / Gun Street Girl / Time

LABELS: Clean, bright and unmarked with just one or two of the lightest spindles. The spindle hole is still quite tight. This copy has hardly ever been on a turntable
VINYL Visual: The surfaces are clean and fresh with their original deep, like-new, glossy sheen. The record looks practically brand new with just a couple of superficial light brush marks (which have no audio consequence)
VINYL Audio: Outstanding audio reproduction throughout and impressively recorded with a crystal clear, deep, rich and atmospheric sound. On playback at a loud volume there are no scratches, no jumps/sticks, no surface noise (the run-ins and track divisions are practically silent) and no clicks/pops . The whole LP plays with great clarity, groove-wear and no distortion (it's barely been played) and the pressing is very, very clean. Graded MINT for audio (it's flawless) - this is a great copy - you would be hard pressed to find one better - and very highly recommended
SLEEVE: Clean, fresh and unmarked with practically no storage edge wear and crisp, square edges and spine - where all text is clear and bold - NEAR MINT
and the black Island inner is also NEAR MINT with no splits or signs of wear
