U.K. 1968 MONO ORIGINAL PARLOPHONE yellow/black LABEL (Cat.No.PMC 7042)
This is TOMORROW's one and only album.Issued in February 1968. (Featuring Keith West-as it says on the reverse of the sleeve by way of a sub-title.)A rare and sought-after psychedelic classic.The matrix numbers are:side 1:XEX 667-1 / side 2:XEX 668-1.Both sides have a "1"stamp on the run-off groove in the middle of the lefthand side to denote that this is indeed the very first pressing of this record.Both labels are spotlessly clean with just a few slight spindle marks on both sides to prove that it's seen some use. Both bear the words:"The Gramophone Co.Ltd.All Rights....." etc.in higher-case capitals.
The vinyl shows some minor signs of use as well.There are some visual scuffs on both sides.All are superficial.Side 1;track 1:"MY WHITE BICYCLE"does have a minor scratch, but this doesn't sound.I have "play-graded" as well as visually graded this LP.There is minor surface-noise between tracks , but not during the tracks themselves.I would have to conclude that this is :"VG-plus"or even "EX-minus"if use the Record-collector guide to grading.(There is very little lessening of sound quality.)The dynamism , and sheer forcefulness of TOMORROW's playing is in no way impeded.
The record is housed in the original E.M.I. innersleeve(that advertises other misc.LPs on their various labels).The cover, "printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd." is an all black & white prodution and is in "EX" condition.It's a laminated (front-only) fip-over sleeve.Completely clean and unmarked. There is a slight yellowing towards the edge, but as I say, slight.The laminate is intact with just one minor crease coming from the spine and another equally small and insignificant crease from the top.Neither break the surface of the laminate.The reverse is matt finished and is clean and unmarked.Lists the eleven tracks including the singles "MY WHITE BICYCLE"and the follow-up "REVOLUTION"and it's "B"-side "THREE JOLLY LITTLE DWARFS" as well as their take on Lennon's "STRAWBERRY FIELDS".All very much reminds of BARRETT / FLOYD's "PIPER"LP. Features a group photo:guitarist STEVE HOWE closest ; drummer TWINK next to him, followed by singer KEITH WEST and lastly by bass and rhythm-guitarist JUNIOR.It was WEST's solo career that overshadowed group-efforts .Hence the LP's sub-title.And it's belated issue early in '68, though it was cut by October 1967 when the group's psychedelic cred would have still been in vogue.No suprise then that the band split in April 1968.(Also , incidently, when Syd was fired by the Floyd.)For all four members of TOMORROW this venture was just one stepping stone in long and colourful careers.Still it remains a top artifact in the psychedelic cannon.And this is a very nice copy that rarely turns up.
