The debut album by Toots and the Maytals, Sweet & Dandy, hears a well-timed reissue via Real Gone. The Jamaican reggae and ska band formed in 1962 under the shortened name The Maytals, though its later namesake Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, their frontman, was present from the beginning. Fashioning a close relationship with Clement Dodd and the Skatalites of Studio One fame, these early movements catapulted them to success and led to the sweeping, joyous release of various first singles - including 'Pressure Drop', 'Monkey Man' and 'Just Tell Me', all of which grabbed history by the horns and feature on this loving wellspring of an album.
