David Sarnoff of Rca wanted to celebrate the maestro's 100th birthday with something on vinyl entirely special.
This is the result, a 5LP box, that includes performances with the NBC never before released.
Selections include Haydn SYMPHONY 99 and SYMPHONI CONCERTANTE IN B-FLAT, Mozart TOY SYMPHONY, Brahms SERENADE No. 2, GESANG DER PARZEN (with Robert Shaw), and LIEBESLIEDER WALTZES, Sibelius SYMPHONY No. 2 and POHJOLA'S DAUGHTER, plus two from Shostakovich, his SYMPHONY Nos. 1 and 7.
The booklet goes into much detail about what's here, and, in no uncertain terms, explains why many believed only Toscanini could have a symphony orchestra play as one.
Box is like new, no major wear at all to report, while the records within (WDs) should play near mint. Fact is, they look entirely unplayed.
A treasure indeed, to be cherished.
