TOSHI TSUCHITORI
BREATH LP
Private - DYM 002
Unbelievable vocal experimentations from Japan's best hidden secret. Like listening to the vocal experimentations of Demetrio Stratos or Joan La Barbara.
Some info on the release: Legendary album from japanese experimental artist Toshi Tsuchitori, this was the 2nd release of the D.Y.M. label, a tiny independent japan-american label, distributed by Bellows, Tsuchitori put out his main output on DYM. All releases from DYM were strictly limited editions, that's why you don't come accross his albums, but scarcely. Vocal experimentations to their most extreme limits. Highest recommendation for this one!!
Toshi Tsuchitori started his music career as a percussionist and free improviser in the 1970s. since then, he has been played with Milford Graves, Derek Bailey, Steve Lacy and other world musicians. Known also for his release on the ALM label from the 70's with Mototeru Tagaki and his appearence on the Bellows album by Billy Bang Changing Seasons. Toshi Tsuchitori is a familiar name if you are acquainted with Japanese mid-seventies free jazz. He has backed up Kaoru Abe. References: Kurt Schwitters, Tristan Tzara, Mauricio Kagel, Pierre Henry, Diamanda Galas, Brion Gysin, Meredith Monk, Charles Amirkhanian, Henri Chopin, Miriam Burton, Yma Sumac, Vox Humana, Demetrio Stratos, Tamia.
He has done extensive research on the world's ethnic music and dance, especially asian and african. in the 1980s he presented three japanese archeological music works, “d taku; ancient japanese bronze bells from yayoi period (b.c. 400 - a.d. 250)”, “sanukaito; stone sounds of the paleolithic era in japan”, “j monko; pottery drums of j mon period (b.c. 3000 - b.c. 2500)”.Hhe continues to searching for the roots of ancient japanese music. Also he created ryuko gakusha (private art center) in 1988 with harue momoyama in gujo hachiman, gifu prefecture and has contributed vastly to the region's culture. Close to composers as Somei Satoh, Jo Kondo, Takehisa Kosugi, Taj Mahal Travellers, Akio Suzuki, Maki Ishii and Michio Mamiya, Toshiya Sukegawa, Yuji Takahashi and Masahiko Sato, Toshi Ichiyanagi, Joji Yuasa and Toru Takemitsu, and also may be of interest to those interested to Brast Burn, East Bionic Symphonia, Yoshio Hayakawa, Keiji Haino,Magical Power Mako, Michael Ranta, Les Rallizes Denudes.
