TOY WATCHES “Too Long” RARE 1980 Aussie indie 7” punk power-pop

Toy Watches – Too Long 7” (orig. Australia “Peanut Republic Records” STEREO PRR 001)

Release date: July 1980.

On offer here is an EXTREMELY RARE original issue of the only release (independent 7” single) by Brisbane-based PUNK & POWER-POP band, TOY WATCHES.  In all my years of scouring around for Brisbane indie records, the 45’s issued on PEANUT REPUBLIC RECORDS (TOY WATCHES & MR. MEANER) would have to rate as two of the toughest to locate.  I’ve owned more copies of the FUN THINGS EP, than either of these babies!  I understand there were only 500 copies pressed of which only a few have survived.  This 45 was never issued with a picture sleeve.

There is an amazing YouTube video of the band performing “Too Long” on the link below!  The band originally hailed from Ipswich (an outlying suburb of Brisbane).

GRADING (also refer photos)

Record:

visual: VG+ beautiful glossy sheen—numerous superficial hairlines but highly acceptable (nothing to be concerned about) (seen under strong light).

audible: M- >>> SOUNDS SUPERB – A HIGHLY ENJOYABLE LISTENING EXPERIENCE!  DEFINITELY NO JUMPS or SKIPS – played from beginning to end J

labels: moderate spindle wear, some writing on A-side label & “July ‘80” written on B-side label, “4ZZZ” in felt pen on both sides.

UNBELIEVABLY OBSCURE & RARE TO BOOT.  I’M UNLIKELY TO EVER SEE ANOTHER COPY AGAIN!  ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVOURITE ALTERNATIVE 45’s TO COME OUT OF BRISBANE, PERFORMED BY A GROUP OF BREMER (IPSWICH) HIGH SCHOOL BOYS.  I HAVE VERY FOND MEMORIES OF LISTENING TO “Too Long” ON 4ZZZ BACK IN THE DAY!!
