Tractor biography
In the middle of the '60's, when a new trend, psychedelia, was about to influence all over the world, two young musicians, drummer Steve Clayton and Guitar/vocalist Jim Milne started out a beat group under the name of THE WAY WE LIVE. Initially joining them were bassist Michael "Slim" Batsch and founding member lead vocalist Alan Burgess, but by the end of the decade, before even releasing anything, the band was down to just Milne and Clayton. Having transformed into a psychedelic-folk duo, THE WAY WE LIVE signed to Dandelion recordings and recorded their debut in two days' time. A Candle for Judith, which is also featured in progarchives under its respective band, was released in January 1971. The legendary BBC DJ John Peel bought them recording equipment and a stereo PA system (a fact, which, ironically became title for a compilation album!), and also convinced them to change their name. The "new" band Tractor's first efort was an EP, "Stoney Glory"/"Marie"/"As You Say", again, for Dandelion. Their first full-length album (a self-titled one) followed in 1972. The duo kept on for another three years, releasing a few singles until '77, but they reformed now and again in the following decades. Their recordings for a third full-length album were only released in 1990, as "Worst Enemies". 1990 also saw the re-release of their self-titled album with three bonus tracks. (It would be released once again with different bonus tracks in 2006) Their first two full-length efforts were combined into a single disc in 1995, and credited to both names, though the musicians were exactly the same! There are also various compilations derived from both incarnations of the band. Tractor's music is an exciting mixture of British psychedelia, folk, and heavy rock. Highly recommended for the fans of the said genres!
