Description
TRACTOR - " TRACTOR ", Dandelion Records (2310 217) Stereo, 1972.
Ultra rare, 1972, English 1st pressing LP issue of the cult prog album by Tractor on John Peel's Dandelion label.
Unlike many prog albums from this time that had the image and the reputation but not he musical substance to back it up, this album sounds quite like no other... a genuinely progressive album with fuzz guitar like I've never heard before or since.
English issue and pressing.
Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and then put in a fresh new poly-lined inner sleeve (the original inner sleeve had been lost by the time this LP came to me but was justa generic inner with no distictions connecting to this particular LP so is of no great loss - see photo)
Matrix and stamper numbers are;
SIDE A = Matrix: 2310217 A//2 420 Stampers: 1 1
SIDE B = Matrix : 2310217 B//2 420 Stampers: 1 1 1
Although I can't find any info on the stamper numbers, they are clearly earlier than many listed as sold for good on popsike.com. The matrix numbers are of course the very first matrix numbers for this LP.
CONDITION:
VINYL = EXCELLENT- (No big scratches, no groove damage, no distortion, just a few light spindle trails, etc. Under a bright grading lamp I can make out a few very light marks and faint surface scuffs visible on the vinyl's surface - although none of these correspond directly to any audible defects. It generally plays well - mostly free from interuption from distortion, clunks, excessive surface, etc... when listening in headphones, there is some very faint occasional surface noise audible during the run-in and between tracks, possibly in the pressing. As the record played, I did hear the odd faint click in the background from time to time, but these were so faint and sporadic that without the slight visual defects it would have probably made a straight EXCELLENT grading. Also the label while light on spindle trails is a bit grubby and does have some small blue pen initials on one side - see pics for more.
Overall, although it is not quite museum piece perfect and I realise this will affect the value, it is by no means ruined by these minor imperfections and would still make a good honest copy for someone to play and enjoy.
Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)
SLEEVE = V.G.- (This is where things get a bit more complicated. Generally this sleeve wasn't too bad with normal light wear to the edgse/corners and justa couple of very light thumb creases and some initials written in blue pen on the back. Sadly though, at some point in this record's life it's been stored somewhere damp. It has managed to avoid any water marks or a wavy sleeve, but after it's dried out the section of the card sleeve that has been affected has been left very fragile. The bottom right corner has lost all it's print and the card left is very delicate and the print remaining on the bottom edge up to the half way point is flaking off too. Of course, this can't affect how this great record sounds, but I realise it will influence it's value and final sale price.
