Travis : The Invisible Band A1/B1 2nd Press

This second pressing plays with amazing quality on both sides with no interference.  The clarity and depth of the audio is STUNNING and in all honesty it could not play any better.  This is easily a FINAL UPGRADE version, the playback is 'as new' on both sides.  The vinyl is also incredibly clean with no marks or scratches and has been so well preserved down the years, perhaps only played once or twice.

The cover is in excellent condition with only minimal shelf wear and the lyric inner is almost 'as new'.

Based on the matrix info and that there is only one centre ring on the labels I would say this is a second pressing but there is certainly no denying the sonic quality on offer here.  A 'high grade' press that impresses on every level.

Visual description

The vinyl is in beautiful condition and still has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Even under a brighter light I cannot see any sleeve removal hairlines it really is a super clean version.  The labels are pristine with perhaps just one tiny and barely visible spindle trace on each.  Not sure they are spindle traces to be honest!  The only negative is there is a small edge 'lift' / warp but it does not affect the audio or the stylus in any way. 

Play grading

The intro on 'Sing' plays perfectly and as the vocal comes in the playback is just as 'clean'.  It continues to play with stunning precision with no interference at all.  From start to finish there is not even a single dust tick let alone anything more and Mint is an easy grade to give.

The quiet intro on 'Dear Diary' is 'as new' and it continues to play with a clarity that cannot be faulted.  This is a beautiful version and I cannot emphasise enough just how immaculate the playback is - has this record ever been played?!  Another Mint track.

'Side' keeps up this high end standard and plays with faultless precision from the first note to the last with no intrusion.  A couple of barely audible dust ticks on the quiet fade out section that is all.  Mint

'Pipe Dreams' also plays with a clarity and warmth that again can only be described 'as new'.  Every section plays with stunning accuracy and...you know the grade...

The percussive intro on 'Flowers In The Window' has no 'background' at all and thereafter plays just as clearly as the previous tracks.  No interference just pure Mint audio including the gong at the end :-)

The segue into 'The Cage' plays with impeccable clarity and this standard is kept up as it progresses.  Every vocal and instrumental section is flawless with no dust ticks, clicks, pops and no underlying static either.  A superb Mint eversion to end the side and that includes the fade out also.  It is no exaggeration to say S1 plays like the record was pressed only yesterday not over 20 years ago.  On a clarity scale of 1 to 100 I would have to say this is 100!

S2 begins with a perfect rendition of 'Safe' that again displays perfect clarity throughout with no intrusion.  Mint

'Follow The Light', 'Last Train' and 'Afterglow' all play with phenomenal quality with no sign of any interference which is to be expected by now!  There is little else to say, in essence they could not play any better - the sonic quality is 'as new' in every regard.  All three grade as Mint

Many would say 'Indefinitely' plays perfectly and indeed the only 'background' is a handful of mega quiet dust ticks on the alarm clock at the end plus one minor static tick.  Let's say Mint- although even that may be a little harsh!

'The Humpty Dumpty Love Song' then plays with audio of the highest calibre.  The clarity and definition is stunning and once again there is nothing that detracts from the 'listen'.  A perfect Mint finish to the album.

In summary this early pressing plays to a standard you will rarely find today.  The clarity just could not be any more impressive and I am confident in saying it sounds like it has never been played before.  A FINAL UPGRADE version of that I have no doubt.

The Cover & Lyric Inner

The cover is in excellent condition with only very minimal wear.  The top edge has a couple of minor 'rubs' and the bottom edge has only very light rubbing towards the corners.  The spine is very clean with just one pinch a third of the way down and corner crease at the top.  The other corners are in great shape with barely any wear.  The front cover is perfect and unmarked and the back cover is just as clean.  A barcode sticker has been been placed over the original.  A fine example overall.

The card lyric inner is as close to perfect as is possible with just one mega small faint crease next to the thumb notch.

Play tested on my Rega P2 Turntable / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
