If you love baseball or know someone who does, here is something special. It is Edison cylinder record #9926, the evergreen 7th-inning stretch anthem of our National Pastime, "Take Me Out To The Ball Game," sung by Edison stalwart Edward Meeker with orchestral accompaniment. It was recorded in 1908, the year the song was first published - you can imagine Ty Cobb and Christy Mathewson and Cy Young having a chuckle over it as a new song about their profession.  Well, maybe not Ty;  he was a very mean man.


This cylinder typically sells for $250 or more in mint condition, when it turns up.  This example has a few imperfections, which means you might be able to get it for quite a bit less, while still having an original playable copy to enjoy.  Look carefully at the photos, and you will see a patch of damaged grooves, toward the end of the record.  You will also see that the title end has somehow been chipped, but the good news is that you can still read the title.  There are no cracks in the record, which is usually the kiss of death for wax cylinders, so it should be safely playable for many years to come.


The record is sold with an original correct Edison box and lid, and the lid was inscribed with the title long ago, by a prior owner.


Now for the business part. This is an as-is sale, with no returns. I have experience with packing and shipping fragile recordings such as this and will do everything necessary to assure it gets to you in the same condition as it leaves here. Insurance at the auction sale price will be included in shipping costs.
