Exceedingly rare reference acetate of Television's legendary second album 'Adventure.' This is NOT the released final version of the album, and the acetate is untitled. Several of the songs - most evidently 'Glory,' 'Ain't That Nothin',' and 'The Dream's Dream' - vary significantly from the final takes and remain unreleased. This version of 'Glory' is NOT the 'Early Version' included on the 2003 Rhino CD, and 'Ain't That Nothin' is neither the album nor the single version. The whole mix of the album is quite different (certainly 'flatter') than the released version. As is often the case with acetates, the sound is quite crackly throughout and is particularly noisy on the first song, 'Glory.' There are no skips.There is a visible off-white colored bump at the end of 'Glory' (see last photo above) which causes a loud pop for several revolutions. I grade this as a VG- compared with other acetates - but it plays more like a Good+ compared with a vinyl LP. This record is not listed in Discogs, and I have never seen another copy for sale. The order of the songs and some of the song titles vary from the released LP, but they are the same 8 songs. There is no cover; there is a plain white sleeve on which there are hand-written notations pertaining to track titles and lengths. The acetate runs as follows:
Side 1: 1. Glory 2. Ain't That Nothin 3. Days 4. Cairo (Under The Dome) - AKA The Dream's Dream
Side 2: 1. Today After Day (Yippie Do) - AKA The Fire 2. Foxhole 3. I Don't Care - AKA Careful 4. Carried Away
I am including audio links for 'Glory' and 'Ain't That Nothin.' I played this acetate only once years ago, and recorded very imperfect mp3s from it. You will notice the speed is slightly slow-this was due to my turntable at the time.
It is no exaggeration to say that this may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own this disc! As a foundational record of the late seventies NYC rock/punk scene, it can only increase in value.
NOTE: No returns accepted! I have tried to give an accurate description of the condition of this acetate including imperfections and wear.
