Description
The Beatles - "Yesterday and Today" / Capitol Reocrds, T-2553, Mono, United States, 1966
A VG to VG+ LP in a VG to VG+ sleeve. The 2nd state of the "butcher" cover, so-called as a slick replaced the offending front image. The tell lies in the faint visibility of Ringo's collar (from the original image) below the slick to the right of the trunk and beneath the "Today". Our third picture tries to capture this (it is undeniable in the flesh, though the image is not as definitive as I'd like). The slick is entirely intact, no peel has been attempted. The record was pressed at plant 6 (Los Angeles, as I understand it) per the "6" at the lower right rear of the sleeve. The deadwax reads: T-1-2553-F-21 2 and T-2-2553-G-18 1. The labels' rainbow borders have no text. The inner sleeve is the original Capitol '66 issue.
The labels: the previous owner penned her name to the border on side 1; very light spindle swipe; a touch of white visible at the spindle holes. Very clean, still bright, attractive. The sides: glossy, bright, with multiple hairlines and light marks to each, a line of scuff or needle to side 2; nothing palpable, nothing frightening in these marks; played through on both sides for grading purposes and found: light crackle under the mix on the first 3 tracks of side 1 (slightly intrusive, no more), but greatly diminished for tracks 4-6; almost inaudible static at the start of side 2, a low but audible tick at the end of track 2 and into the early part of track 3, light static at the end of the final track. In short, no major disruption or noise, but not the copy for a purist. The record has a very slight warp, but there were no tracking issues whatsoever. The inner sleeve: clean, bright, undamaged (no slits or chips). The outersleeve: light spotting and shadow to both sides, previous owner's name to the unslicked top edge of the front and to the top of the rear; the corners of the open edge are lightly bumped, the edges mildly rubbed. That said, no splits, no weakness to the sleeve, none of its text effaced, a very clean and legible label edge, and, again, no peeling to the slick.
