THE BEATLES ~ Yesterday and Today ST-2553 Capitol Black Rainbow Genuine 1966 Record & Sleeve with Alternate Purple Trunk Slick
COVER: VG+ This is a reproduction made from a genuine original 1966 stereo cover with a purple trunk slick pasted over the white trunk cover. The purple trunk cover is one of the rarest of all Beatles album artwork. The purple trunk cover is the only alternate, fully-realized replacement cover for the “Yesterday and Today” butcher cover that existed. Press proofs were printed, but scrapped at the last minute when the white trunk cover design was ultimately chosen. Only four authentic copies of the purple trunk cover are said to have survived, and they have been valued as high as $15,000 apiece. Front cover slick VG++ with just a scratch or scuff barely visible in the purple area. Back cover displays only light rub wear & some faint scratches that are hardly noticeable. Looks like a faint water stain running down the entire length of the spine on the back cover but it’s not too noticeable. Top, bottom seams are intact with no splits. Spine is also in good shape with only the very top starting to flake off. #6 on the bottom right back cover indicates the cover was printed by Imperial Packing Co., Inc. of Indianapolis, IN. Record: G Capitol black rainbow labels. Vinyl has many light scratches & scuffs. With some light audible surface noise evident in some areas. Track 1, Side 1 skips sometimes on my player but plays very well throughout the rest of the record. Labels show no wear but there are a couple of small scratches visible. Jacksonville, IL pressing and the matrix numbers indicate it is a first-run pressing. See pics.
Yellow-Gold ‘66 Capitol Records inner sleeve included - both sides have splits and the bottom is completely split across the entire length. Will include a good generic white sleeve to store the record in.
Displays very nicely overall and would make a nice conversation piece!
