The Barracudas  A Plane View of.... Justice 143
The Barracudas Justice LP from early 1967 is one of the best on this cult label. Definitely a Top 5-er, and for good reason. All of the tunes have more then their share of teen spirit, with main vocalist Chris Layne still employing some trace of an English accent. The majority of the covers are those originally done by UK bands or UK band covers originally done by American acts. The 'cudas version of the Yardbirds version of Bo Diddley's I'm A Man may be the best ever. Better still as it clocks in as a 6 minute sonic rip with distorted guitar, feedback, sheet metal (being played), a ladder being knocked over and the bottom sound pit of the Justice Recording Co. further distorting all of the chaos. And then, as if to deny all their Anglo aspirations, they end with a totally unrelated, pretty lame version of Shot Gun. Their home base of Highland Springs was a suburb of Richmond. Another Richmond was a suburb of London. The Barracudas Plane seems to have traveled between those two couplings.
This record came from someone who bought it at the time of release and said it had never been played.
