Description
For sale is a copy of The Beatles fourth studio album, Songs from the Film ‘A Hard Days Night’.
This is an original STEREO Australian 1st Pressing produced in 1964 which features the unique black and silver stereo labels.
Most records sold in 1964 were produced in MONO and therefore STEREO copies are much, much rarer.
In addition, the Australian record market was much smaller than that in the UK and USA and therefore original Australian pressings are extremely difficult to find.
Many vinyl records are mis-sold on eBay. There are several details which identify this copy as a true 1st pressing. They are:
· Front side laminated flipback sleeve
· Gold and Black wrap-around STEREO sticker
· ‘Made And Distributed by EMI Australia’ printed on the reverse of the sleeve
· Black labels with silver Parlophone logo.
· ‘PCSO 3058’ catalogue number.
· Matrix numbers YAPAX 1001 (side 1) and YAPAX 1002 (side 2).
I try to take pictures which provide a fair representation of the condition of a record and the sleeve. If interested, please read below for a more detailed discussion to include an audio description.
I use the Goldmine standard as a reference for grading.
Vinyl: Very Good
The record is in fantastic visual condition.
Both sides of the vinyl surface retain the original gloss sheen.
The labels are bright and clean with little spindle wear.
Both sides of the vinyl have several surface marks, a couple of which are more noticeable on Side 1.
The audio on both sides is very enjoyable to listen to. Side 1 has a couple of pops on track 1 and a 1 second hiss on track 6 which keeps the grading at Very Good. Side 2 is a strong Very Good +.
There is great channel separation, clear vocals and punchy basslines.
This is a record that has been sensitively and cautiously used over the years.
Sleeve: Very Good
The front laminated sleeve looks great.
The colours on the front of the sleeve are very bright with minimal discolouration.
There are a few ripples to the laminate.
The rear is remarkably clean with no damage to the often-fragile flip backs.
It does have a small tear on the opening edge, visible ring wear and a name written in biro at the top.
The corners are strong, and the spine and edges are distinct.
Inner Sleeve: Good +
Incredibly, the original round edged polythene inner sleeve is included!
These are very ‘light weight’ and generally destroyed or thrown away.
It is heavily creased and has a 10cm rip starting at the opening edge.
Despite this, it would still happily hold a record.
Also included in the sale is an audiophile quality inner sleeve which provides the best possible protection for the record.
This is a superb example of an incredibly rare record. A necessary addition to the completist collectors collection!
The album is housed within a premium quality polythene outer sleeve. The vinyl is separate to the sleeve.
The album will be sent within a padded vinyl record mailer.
