Under the harsh communist regime's 'Normalization' policy in Czechoslovakia, western pop music in the early 1970's was almost impossible to find. Only a handful of 'western' albums were released on the state run 'Supraphon'. In 1972 two Beatles LPs were granted release ('A Collection of Oldies' & 'Abbey Road') via the 'Gramofonovy Klub' (Gramophone Club). Both were cut and pressed in Prague from UK tapes and were available in both mono and stereo. The covers and packaging were also locally produced.

Housed in a Czech printed glossy cover with the Supraphon logo & mono/stereo catalogue numbers printed on the rear panel.
Initial copies such as this, came with a lavish 36-page colour & black & white 12" stapled booklet containing an introductory essay (in Czech), along with a number of interesting photos dating mostly from 1969/70, with the lyrics to each song printed in Czech and English.

Labels: EXCELLENT
Clean & unblemished showing just a few faint spindle trails in strong light around each unworn centre hole
Disc: EXCELLENT -
Both playing surfaces are extremely clean and retain all of their 'as new' deep-gloss shine. There are some small marks on the 1st 3 tracks on side 1, but no other significant visual marks. This fine sounding disc pressed on quality vinyl and the cutting is excellent. The sound is full and clear and has strong and warm bass response - totally different to the familiar stereo mix. This particular copy has received a moderate amount of careful play on good equipment and the sound is unworn and free from any groove/playwear distortion anywhere. My play-check at volume detected a few intermittent 'fluttering' noises on the first three tracks on side 1, but only a minimal vinyl background thereafter and no jumps, repeats or heavy clicks.
Cover: VERY GOOD
This extremely fragile example has survived in respectable shape and fully intact. There are some signs of wear, mainly to the edges and spine but no seams splits or tears anywhere.
Booklet: VERY GOOD +
This rare item shows some light handling wear but is 100% complete. There is a small 1.5cm repair to the lower edge of the front panel and are two small stains on pages 3 & 5. The two central staples are rust-free and there are no loose or missing pages
