Description
In this auction:
· “THE BEATLES BALLADS” LP by the Beatles
· This Parlophone Records PCS 7214.
· This LP has 1 STEREO RECORD with 20 CUTS on it.
· This is a UK Pressing.
· It was issued October 13, 1980.
· It is a compilation album featuring a selection of Beatles ballad songs. This LP was NOT released in the U.S., but it was released in the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, India, Germany, Mexico, South Korea and Australia. The LP was a huge success in Australia where it spent 7 weeks at #1.
· Most of the tracks on this LP appear on the “Love Songs” double vinyl LP, but this LP is considered to be a better compilation album than “Love Songs”.
· A 1977 remixed version of “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)” used on the ”Love Songs” LP is included on this LP, but 4 tracks, “Yesterday”, “You’ve Got To Hide You’re Love Away”, “She’s Leaving Home” and “Here, There and Everywhere”, had the left and right channels reversed.
· The LP cover art by “Patrick” (John Byrne) had been created in 1968 as a possible cover for what would become “The Beatles” double vinyl LP (aka: The White Album), but it was shelved and not used.
· It’s style and concept of the front coverage image is quite similar to the paintings of Henri Rousseau and to Edward Hicks’ painting “The Peaceable Kingdom” in particular.
· The LP in this auction is a FIRST PRESSING that was released October 10, 1980.
· We know this because:
1) It has the Parlophone black label with two white/black EMI logos and silver print.
2) “EMI Records Ltd…” is printed at the beginning of the perimeter print, and “Made in GT. Britain” is printed at the end of the perimeter print.
3) It has the Side 1 matrix numbers PCS 7214 –A2 and the Side 2 matrix numbers PCS 7214 –B2.
· The COVER is in STRONG VG CONDITION. There is light wear to the front and rear cover images and moderate wear on the edges and corners. Most of the wear on the cover of this LP is on the edges and corners. There is a very small push and crease on the bottom right corner.
· The VINYL is in VERY STRONG VG+ to WEAK NEAR MINT MINUS CONDITION with just a few very light surface hairlines/scuffs.
· The generic UK paper inner sleeve that came with the LP is included.
A NICE COPY of this UNCOMMON BEATLES LP that was NOT RELEASED IN THE U.S. to add to your vinyl collection.
