The Beatles - Beatles For Sale - 1964 First Pressing, Ultra Rare copy!
Cat No: PCS 3062
Matrix No's: Side 1 - YEX 142-1, Side 2 - YEX 143-1
The rarity of this pressing of The Beatles album 'Beatles For Sale' cannot be underestimated. Not only is this a genuine first pressing of this classic album but is made even rarer due to two significant differences;
Firstly, unlike a number of the copies for sale across the UK, it is only this original and genuine first pressing dating back to December the 4th 1964, that includes the track listing on the label on side 1 with track 7 as 'Kansas City (Lieberman-Stoller). This was changed later in the original press run after attorneys for Venice Music complained causing this to be corrected to reflect a melody of tracks.
More importantly, within the matrix mark on side 1, the matrix mark can be seen to have originally been marked '143' but has been over-pressed by Parlophone to correctly read '142' in line with side 2 that is marked '143' thus avoiding both sides being marked the same with the number 143-1. Please see image 6 for a full understanding of the error on this matrix mark.
This is a very rare error only noted on a handful of copies of this first pressing, making this record, in accordance with reputable Beatles sites, as being ultra rare!
Vinyl condition: Good condition with a number of surface marks but no more than is expected of a record that is 51 years old. I have played the record from start to finish on both sides and none of the surface marks affect the playing quality. There are no scratches.
Cover condition: The cover has a number of marks with wear showing on the leading edge of the front of the gatefold cove. There are a number of creases on the same front cover and the rear and some wear and creasing to the inside spine of the cover. Please see the images for clarity.
This is a very rare opportunity to purchase one of only a handful of copies of this vinyl record with the unique track title and importantly the matrix error!!!!
Given the rarity of this copy of not only a first genuine pressing of 'Beatles For Sale' but with unique issues, this vinyl has a starting price of £49.99. Given that a previous copy with the same errors sold in the USA for a sterling equivalent of over £700.00 over 5 years ago, this is a chance for the serious collectors to obtain a real collectors item!
Please note that close up images appear to show the words on the label to be silver, however, the additional image reveals that the writing is in fact yellow as it should be.
