For auction today: Still sealed, The Beatles Collection. A box set containing 12 albums by The Beatles and an album called Rarities. Made in Australia. I don't know how rare a still-sealed Australian pressing/version of this box set is, but I would think it was uber-rare. Never seen one before in 20 years of record hunting, so could be a unique example (?)
Background: Bought this from an elderly gentleman this week, whom I had crossed paths with about 2 years ago. He rang me and invited me over to his home. This and the other records he had were stored upright on a shelf with some sheet music on top of the row. I have taken a photo of the accumulated dust on the laminate, on the top edge, where it was exposed. I have not cleaned it off to show more about how original it is. Also for fear that I would accidentaly tear the laminate if I rub it off when cleaning. Feel free to do it if you win this, after you have paid for it. It;s sort of like presenting an ancient artifact from an archaeological dig, with all the dirt and soil still stuck to it.
About the seal: I have taken photos of both top and bottom panels and most importantly, all the 4 sides as well. Look carefully and you will see that there is some peeling of the lamination, present on the back panel. Two of the sides are almost fully covered in sealant laminate. On the third side, the seal (top and bottom laminates meeting) is present for about 15 cms and the 4th side, the seal is present for about 6.5 cms. This 6.5 cms is the difference between proving it is a factory sealed copy and the lesser-grading of just a "mint/unplayed" copy! (Feels good to be able to say that).
That is why I am listing this as "pick up only". The laminate, it is very delicate and thin. Not much of it to go, before the proof and it's value seriously drops if it tears. And if I try to pack it for posting, I know that Murphy's Law will kick-in and I will break the seal and then will have a MASSIVE problem with the winning bidder, trying to argue my point about "no responsibility" and "I tried my best" etc.. Not to mention refunds etc.. Sorry. Won't risk that sort of headache and loss of a "sealed copy" premium.
Condition: Box itself is in as close to M- condition as possible. No scrapes, no dents, no tears to the corners or other tears, no silverfish damage (often the case), no unwanted writing, no fading of colour.
Again, this is a Beatles blue Box set titled "The Beatles Collection" that is still sealed, as was done 35 years ago, in Australia.
