Description

To celebrate the opening of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games we are offering this Gold Medal Winner by the host country’s most popular export.  For many years I did promotion for music labels, large and small, and have accumulated product not only from labels I represented but labels I competed with as well.  Understand this was not a collection as such; it was the residue of what I did for a living. These discs were not stored in air tight lockers of keep in a temperature controlled clean room, they were in boxes in my office and although they may have never been removed from the dust jacket please expect dust and even some light scratching. Others have survived the passage of time in undisturbed factory shrink as this example.  From 1978 we have a wonderful example of The Beatles Collection as released by EMI Records, catalogue # BC-13.  This collection has sat undisturbed on a shelf since release and I believe it contains all of its original contents.  All the discs retain their unbroken factory shrink and appropriate stickers.  All except the “Rarities” disc, that was never in shrink in the first place.  Included also is the sheet of close up color photos and a never applied, gold foil “contains” sticker.  This collection is made up of the first 12 Beatles discs released in the UK, plus a special bonus disc entitled 'Rarities', with the Capitol label, that was only available as part of this set. The set comes in a blue leather-patterned box with gold lettering that has survived in almost like new condition showing very little shelf ware.  There is one small tear next to the gold # 1940 that is found on the front of the case just below the seam where the box opens.  Discs are as shown: Rarities, With the Beatles, Revolver, Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, The White Album, Please Please Me, Rubber Soul, Let it Be, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Help!, Beatles for Sale and A Hard Days Night.  I don’t recall how or when this collection came into my hands but I did work in promotion for both Capitol and Apple records for many years.  If you have questions about this item, please make use of the “Ask The Seller A Question” option.  We welcome your comments and suggestions on how we might improve the content of our listings.  We also would appreciate corrections, if it appears our facts are wrong or misleading.  If you have questions about the seller, please review our feedback.  Postage in the Continental United States will be exactly what the USPS requires.  We charge an additional $5.00 to cover the cost of a new mailer, pads and USPS Delivery Confirmation.  Insurance and other special services are optional. After listing I found the following information on Wikipedia that explains the reason for the number on the front of the case and the Capitol label on Rarities.  The Beatles collection is a box set of vinyl albums released in the United States in November 1978 and the following month in the United Kingdom containing the official catalogue of The Beatles in stereo, and a new compilation called Rarities.  The American issue by Capitol Records contained the British pressings of the same twelve original Beatles albums, with an American pressing of Rarities. The American pressing of Rarities differed from its British counterpart in that it included the previously released English-language versions of "She Loves You" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand," rather than the German-language version found on the British pressing. The American edition of the boxed set was a limited edition of only 3,000 numbered copies. The limited availability of the American release resulted in the British release becoming popular as an import into the US.  I believe that several of the imported discs contained in this collection might have a value greater than the box itself,  but I am only interested in selling this as a complete original set and will not break the set.
