The Beatles Collection (‘Blue Box’)

14 LP box set containing 12 Parlophone/Apple LP’s (UK pressings) plus a unique American pressing of the Rarities LP. 

Limited Edition, approximately 3000 were produced.

Capitol Records imported the Parlophone and Apple catalog records included in the box set except for the Rarities album.  Capitol manufactured their own version of the Rarities bonus disc.  This version of the Rarities album replaced the German lyric versions of ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ and ‘She Loves You’ with the English lyric versions of ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ and ‘She Loves You’. 

The 13 albums are housed in a blue textured flip top box adorned with gold lettering.

The Beatles Collection was delivered to record stores in mid-December 1978, just in time for Christmas.  This release marked the first time Capitol Records had ever marketed the Beatles’ recordings in their original British formats.  The package sold out almost immediately.

The limited availability of the US box set resulted in the UK box set becoming popular as an import to the US.

I am the original owner, purchased in 1979.

I believe this is number Limited Edition # 1906 as seen on the mailing carton.
