Description
The Beatles & Frank Ifield "Jolly What!" 1964
SUPER RARE Vee-Jay Records, 1085, Mono, Live Album
Also, be on the lookout this week for Sweet Melissa Records' stunning collection of classic blues and jazz on 10" 78 rpm vinyl, as well as our new listings of 33 1/3's! Interesting compilation of pre-released Beatles singles with songs by Australian singer Frank Ifield, pressed just before Vee-Jay lost its U.S. rights to a number of Beatles songs. Information from Wikipedia:"Ifield toured the UK in 1963. While Vee-Jay Records temporarily had the U.S. rights to a number of The Beatles' recordings, they released an album called Jolly What! England's Greatest Recording Stars: The Beatles and Frank Ifield on Stage on 26 February 1964. The LP consisted of four studio Beatles songs (all previously released), plus eight recordings of Ifield. The original pressing has a drawing of a chubby old man with a moustache, and is itself quite rare. However, just before Vee Jay's publishing rights were about to expire on 10 October 1964 they changed the sleeve cover to a drawing of the Beatles. Probably less than one hundred copies were pressed, making it is one of the rarest Beatles albums."
Dead wax: matrix numbers, catalog number, and scribbled-in circle on both sides. Black label with "VJ" logo. Vinyl is in VG+ condition; there are hardly any surface scratches or scuffs on the vinyl. Expect to hear only a very small bit of surface noise on playback. Cover features include the ultra-rare drawing of mustachioed man; this is the original first pressing! Cover in very good condition, only some light wear around the edges. An extremely rare Beatles album on an even rarer pressing! WE HAVE MORE!
