Description
This is a rare Beatles Juke Box EP containing six songs from the Beatle's 12" LP "Something New." It was issued in April, 1964 and is on Capitol Records SXA-2080. Included here are the hard cardboard cover, the 7" EP disc and the title strips that would identify this record in a juke box.
For years, record manufacturers issued EP's strictly for juke box use. They provided entertainment in candy stores, luncheonettes, ice cream parlors, restaurants, bars and clubs. They also gave the listener a few samples of an artist's music in hopes that the listener would go out and by the related 12" LP. As for rock, there were juke box EP's for the Beatles, the Rolling Stones. the Beach Boys, the Four Seasons, the DC 5, and on and on!
As far as the condition of this set, the hard cardboard cover is made from the same grade of hard cardboard as LP covers were made in those days (1960's). There are no splits or writing or marks of any kind on this cover. It is extremely clean! It is in better shape than 99% of other covers of this vintage. The back is blank and is very clean. The cover is either Mint or extremely close to perfect Mint condition! It's THAT good!
As for the the actual 7" vinyl, it looks VG++. The labels are Mint with no stickers or writing of any kind. I play tested all six cuts. The sound was fine and stereo separation was very good. There was basic silence in the lead-in grooves and between each cut. Side One has a few clicks at the end of "Devil In Her Heart" and at the beginning and at the end of "Money." These clicks were not too obvious , but I wanted to mention them here. Side Two played fine and I did not detect any clicks. Overall this 7" vinyl EP fared better than many other juke box EP's I have found over the years. Many of them were almost unplayable due to the heavy arm and stylus of the typical juke box back in the day. This one is very much playable and sounds great!
Included are title strips that would have been used in the juke box for the selection of this EP to play. There is one complete strip of 5 and a partial strip of four and one special title strip that I believe pre-dates the other strips. It is made of paper, while the others are plastic. 61 years later and these Beatles juke box EP's are getting harder and harder to find in decent condition like this one!
Shipping/Handling will be $15.99 Media Mail. I will pack this EP using the box-within-a box method for protection. It will ship Media Mail with 'Restricted Delivery,' meaning only the winner of this EP can take possession of this record and needs to show the USPS Photo ID to receive it! This protects both you and me.
