THE BEATLES (1963)

RELEASE DATE “26-11-63” MACHINE STAMP

VERY 1ST PRINT ROYAL RED MISPRINT LABEL

1ST MISPRINT FULLY LAMINATED FLIP-BACK SLEEVE

Incredibly rare copy of The Beatles debut album “Please Please Me” released in Italy on November 26, 1963 with the title “The Beatles”. This album is also known in Italy as “The Beatles Story” because it was the way it was presented on the promotional flyers at the time. Original single-type fully laminated flip-back wraparound round cut corner sleeve printed by the A. Saita company located in Milan. The design of the sleeve is similar to the “With The Beatles” that had already been released in the UK containing the same photo by Robert Freeman on the front. The front cover has the 3D Parlophone logomark and “Dischi Parlophon” text inside a box in the lower left-hand corner and the catalog number PMCQ 31502 in the upper right-hand corner. The back cover, just like the other 1st issue covers, misprints the “There’s A Place” track as “There’s A Plance”. Very 1st red Parlophone label variation with a boxed BIEM and Micolico logo also contains a misprint indicating “McCartner” instead of “McCartney” on the credit of the “Misery” track. The heavyweight 1st pressing vinyl with the 1st matrix numbers XEX 421 / XEX 422 contains the machine stamped “26-11-63” release date and the “1” suffix. The album comes with the original plain white poly-lined contoured inner sleeve.

I grade the cover conservatively as somewhere between strong Very Good Plus and Excellent Minus. It's very clean and doesn't have any splits, writing or any residue. There's some light scuffing to the laminate, which nevertheless maintains its beautiful gloss, a little bit of creasing and scuffing along the spine and the edges.  The back cover is in great condition and only has a couple of age spots along the spine. The original inner sleeve is in Excellent Minus condition having only one side split but no tears or missing pieces. Just like the cover, the glossy vinyl is somewhere between Very Good Plus and Excellent Minus with the beautiful labels in Excellent condition. The vinyl maintains its beautiful factory lacquer only having a few very light non-feelable hairlines along with some light scuffs from the inner sleeve. The labels are wear- and scuff-free, only having a few very light spindle marks that can be seen under a strong light source.
