Description
The Beatles "No. 5"
This is a Taiwan Import on First FL-1178. The music is originally from 1964 and 1965. It is stereo and pressed on black vinyl ( although if you hold it up to a light, it is kinda translucent gray). The front cover looks just like the US album 'Beatles '65'. But, it has none of the songs on that album. The songs are from several different US albums : 3 from 'Introducing', 2 from "Meet', 2 from 'Second', and 3 from 'Something New'. Plus the 2 songs the Beatles recorded in German. The lyrics are printed on the back cover ( except for the 2 songs in German ).
The songs are : Long Tall Sally, Sie Liebt Dich, Anna, Matchbox, You Really Got A Hold On Me, She's A Woman, Ask Me Why, I Feel Fine, Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand, Chains, Slow Down, All I've Got To Do, I Call Your Name, and This Boy.
What are Taiwan Imports and why should you buy one?? Taiwan imports are copies of US albums that were pressed without obeying copyright laws. They were pressed by small companies in Taiwan ( or Formosa ), in extremely limited numbers ( between 100 and 500 ). It was illegal to export them out of the country, so the only way they got out was from US servicemen who bought them there and then brought them back when they returned from overseas duty. Then they had to be sold to a used record store and then resold to a collector. There are many cover and label variations to watch for. Sometimes they are pressed on colored vinyl. Most of the time the front covers are poor quality copies. Many back covers are different or will have the lyrics printed, some with errors and typos. Sometimes there are album slicks from other albums inside the covers. The US record company logo is gone and a Chinese record company and record number are in it's place. All of their labels are unique with lots of Chinese character writing. The covers are made of paper which is sealed in very thin plastic, inside and outside. They are pressed on poor quality vinyl which plays with some static. They never note the country name on the cover or on the labels.
Overall Condition : Cover : VG / Record : VG+
The cover is VG. There are no seam splits and there is no writing. There is light ring wear on the plastic cover with some stretch marks in the plastic. The bottom corners have minor bends. There are 2 tiny holes in the front plastic. The vinyl looks VG+ and it plays VG+, with light static between the songs. The labels are clean with no spindle marks.
