Even though there’s no official registry proving that there’re 20 copies of this “The Record That Started ‘Beatlemania’” promotional sleeve in existence, there is no reason to doubt this statement whatsoever. It’s so rare that many collectors aren’t able to find it for many decades. This sleeve has already become an integral part of “Beatlemania” history and represents a holy grail of any serious Beatles collection. This Vee-Jay special promotional blue and white title sleeve is frequently called after Jack Paar, the outstanding American talk show host who divided the talk show history into the pre-Paar and post-Paar epochs.

Paar was the first to introduce The Beatles to the American audience with the Beatles first appearing on his show in a prime-time film, which featured the band performing their first complete song on American television. When purchasing a copy of this issue, one should be quite diligent as there’re some counterfeit copies of it. This copy without any doubts is the guaranteed Vee-Jay Records original. Perhaps, one of this sleeve’s sides could be better but who knows whether you’ll ever have a chance to upgrade it. This promotional Vee-Jay Records title sleeve besides “The Record That Started ‘Beatlemania’” upper banner contains the titles of two The Beatles singles on the right, “Please, Please Me” and “From Me To You”. Right under the Vee-Jay Records brackets logo the sleeve contains the “VJ-581” catalog number. The bottom left corner contains the “This Is The Record That Started It All” banner but at that time it was only the beginning of the England’s sensation who appeared on the Jack Paar Show on January 3rd, 1964 and who was about to perform on the Ed Sullivan Show on February 9 & 16.  1st print white / blue promotional labels with the “Promotional Copy” banner on on the left and right under the Vee-Jay Records brackets logo and “VJ 581” catalog number. Despite the fact that the release of this single officially dates as January 30th, 1964, we indicated 1963 in the listing’s title and description as it is this date in particular that’s indicated in the runout grooves of this single pressed at the Monarch plant in Los Angeles. As a rule, the promotional copies were issued significantly earlier than the commercial releases. The mastering of this copy was done by AudioMatrix, Inc. which is identified by the “AudioMatrix” machine stamp. The full matrix numbers including the delta (Δ) numbers and “MR in a Circle” machine stamps are as follows: Side 1: 63-2967 RA Delta (Δ) 46527 RA AudioMatrix MR in a Circle; Side 2: 63-3218 RA Delta (Δ) 47843 RA AudioMatrix MR in a Circle.

This issue is so rare that it's impossible to find in any condition. Nevertheless, the front side of this copy's picture sleeve is in great condition with the fully intact text only having some age scuffing. The back side does have some age scuffs, a light stain and chipping. The picture sleeve doesn't have any splits, writing or residue. The glossy vinyl of this promotional copy is graded as Excellent. It has some very light surface marks as well as scuffs from the picture sleeve, but the majority of them are located in the runout grooves with the areas containing the tracks practically not having any marks at all. The beautiful clean white / blue labels are in pristine Near Mint condition. The vinyl plays fantastic having a warm Mono sound.
